Day 5 of 5: Learn and validate.

Friday is where all your work pays off. It’s time to put your prototype in front of real users and observe how they interact with it. The goal isn’t to sell—it’s to learn. You typically test with five users, one at a time. Why five? Because with five user interviews, you’ll usually spot about 80% of major usability issues. The Sprint team watches quietly—live or recorded—while one facilitator guides each user through realistic tasks using the prototype. As users engage with your solution, pay attention to:

  • What confuses them?
  • Where do they hesitate?
  • What do they love?
  • What do they ignore?

Take detailed notes, and after each session, quickly debrief as a team. Once all tests are done, identify patterns. If 3 out of 5 users struggled with the same step—that’s a strong signal. No matter what the feedback is, you win: either you validated your idea or you discovered how to improve it before wasting months of dev work.

Key Takeaways:

  • Test with 5 real users: That’s usually enough to uncover major issues.
  • Observe silently: Let users explore without interference.
  • Focus on reactions: Confusion and excitement are both valuable signals.
  • Synthesize quickly: Debrief as a team, spot patterns, decide what to do next.

What’s the most surprising insight you’ve ever learned from watching someone use your product?
